I am a bit upset to find that I have a sex offender living within 50 yards from my home. I have children ranging from 2 to 8 years old. The biggest part that upsets me is that my neighbor was notified about this person, however we were told nothing. I guess one door down from this person isn't close enough for a heads-up from our local police who are sworn to protect and serve their community. This morning I called the police department to find out some information, only to find out that its not their job to notify us. I asked how to find information on the web, and was told they were not sure of the site. Wouldn't you think that our community police deptartment would be trained on how to find this information when a concerned citizen needed some help? If its not the responsibility of the police to notify us, who's job is it? Why was my neighbor notofied who doesnt even have children on a regular basis at their residence? How close do you have to live to be notofied? Do we have to wait until something happens that "terrible enough" before something changes. I think its time to be proactive within our community, instead of reacting after a child is already harmed. There is a school at the end of our street, and children walk right by this person's house to get to school DAILY. Thankfully we live in a tight community, and had it not been for my neighbor we still would have no clue who our new neighbor was. All I am trying to do is look out for our children yours as well as mine. Maybe we can come up with a way to work together with the police dept. to educate the public. The time to protect ours kids is now before its too late, and their innocence is stolen from them.
