Corning Community College will host Hilby, the Skinny German Juggle Boy, on Saturday, November 7, 2009, 10 – 11 a.m. in the Main Dining Room, Commons Building, Spencer Hill campus, Corning, as part of the Cool Kids program. As a boy growing up in Berlin, young Hilby boasted no traumatic childhood experiences and exhibited no particular talents other than making funny faces at strangers. Hilby will create unforgettable moments for the audience with death-defying feats and legendary vaudeville style comedy. Much of his inspiration comes from watching children play and learning from them how to look at the world with eyes full of curiosity.
An additional Cool Kids event will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 10 – 11 a.m., as Sylvia Markson fascinates the audience with her Magic Trunk, inhabited by a delightful bunch of quick-witted puppets that she magically brings to life through ventriloquism. The young and young at heart will be treated to a show where they can believe that a puppet can truly talk. Sylvia will spend some time with the audience teaching and practicing ventriloquist techniques.
CCC’s second annual ECOfest and E-Scrap Drive will include two performances by Jonathan Wood’s The Raptor Project. This event is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2010, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wood will share his fascination with birds. Participants will receive an up close and personal introduction to a variety of raptors including a Golden Eagle. Wood is a licensed Master Falconer, Wildlife Rehabilitator, Raptor Propagator and Game Bird Breeder whose love of nature and wildlife is evident with his solar home in the New York Catskill Mountains.
The ECOfest and E-Scrap Drive is sure to be the coolest festival of green ever. Join us for fun, vendors, activities, eco-games, displays, and prizes. Mark your calendar now for this program but watch for details as we fine-tune it over the next couple months. In the mean time, save your old electronic items for our e(electronic)-scrap drive. Don’t throw them in the garbage – bring them to us to be recycled and properly scrapped.
The Cool Kids program is about awesome, fun, interactive programs for kids of all ages, including parents. These are fabulous opportunities for parents to participate in an event with their kids. Registration is not required and most importantly, they are free. The CCC Activities Programming Committee is sponsoring these events as a means to reach out to the community and let them be a part of their college campus with past events attracting over 600 kids and parents.
