o November 7, 2009 – Door Hanger ‘Drop Off’ at peoples homes
o November 14, 2009 – Bag (Food) ‘Pick Up’ at their homes
On November 7, 2009 the Five Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America will kick off its annual Scouting for Food Drive. Scouts will be collecting food donations for the needy across our 10 county, Five Rivers Council Scouting area.
Scouting for Food is Five Rivers Council’s largest service project involving thousands of Scouts and volunteers in the southern tier of New York and northern tier of Pennsylvania. Since 2000, Scouts in Five Rivers Council, their families and volunteer leaders have collected over 1 million food items for our neighbors living with hunger. The council’s goal this year is 150,000, non perishable food items.
On Saturday, November 7th , Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers from across the Five Rivers Council will be placing Scouting for Food Door Hangers which explain the campaign, on door knobs of homes across the Five Rivers Council Scouting area. Scouts will return to pick up bags of food on Saturday, November 14th early in the morning. Donations should be placed on porches or outside doors for quick pick up beginning at 7:00 a.m.
Food donations needed include canned items such as vegetables, meat, chili, soups, juices, and baby items. Boxed or bagged meals and pastas are also welcome. The ideal food donation bag would include one of each. Please nothing perishable, frozen or in a glass container. Monetary donations cannot be accepted.
All food items collected will stay in our local communities, and benefit food banks in the Five Rivers Council, 10 county service area.
Scouting has always stepped up to provide needed services to our local communities, and there is no greater need than hunger in the Five Rivers Council Scouting area. There are children and adults in our local communities that do not have enough food to eat each day to meet their basic nutritional needs. With this drive, especially right before Thanksgiving, we hope to ensure that there is enough food to go to our local food pantries to help feed those in need. It’s the right thing to do!
Thank You all for helping feed your neighbors that are less fortunate than ourselves.
