Why don't you post more local stocks on your morning news. When asked by Big Lots Inc. to post their stocks they were told there was no room...however...you have found room for Target and others that have just come into the community. BigLots has been in this community for quite some time and with loyal customers. Is it because they don't have a BIG name? BigLots is a very large chain located throughout the country. So why the discrimination?

It was about three years ago that I asked WETM TV, "Why dont they post the stocks of other local companys such as Big Lots?"  At the time they had shown stocks from companies such as Thomas &Betts, Walmart,Verizon and such. So I asked why not Big Lots? The answer I got was so silly - "We dont have the room to include them" .  Now I sit and watch their morning show like every other day and enjoy it but then I realize that there are more companies added to the stock banner, and yet still , no Big Lots Inc. Wetm has added Target, and Best Buy to the banner. Seems to me something is smelling pretty ripe! I sent them another comment on this and have not recieved an answer yet. Big Lots has stock traded publicly just as any other, and you can find it as "BLI" on the market. I'm sure they also bring in lots of sales tax revenue to the community.  I'm also sure they are the largest traded company within city of Elmira. A good reason to ask --WHY?

This is a comment on the area of not raising Elmira School District taxes.  I have no problem with not having higher taxes, but is it at the expense of our children?  Dr. Bryant says that he can move special education services with no impact to our children.  Are our special education students not considered children, and what specific services does he plan on moving?  And the other issue is the fact that many times special education classrooms have been moved for things like construction, and overcrowding in given schools.  When something needs to be moved, it seems like it is the special education rooms.  Some of the BOCES classrooms are moved almost every year.  It is important that all children have consistency and structure, but many of our special needs children thrive best on consistency and structure and they are the first to be moved.

Being a part of this community for nearly all of my life; I am deeply concerned with the injustices brought upon through the leadership of our mayor and the appointed judge.

Both the mayor and the judge insist on so-called "tolerance" while ignoring the rights and liberties of all citizens. Last summer, during the "Gay Pride" event some people were arrested and falsely accused of disorderly conduct. While disorderly conduct is an act that interferes with public order; and act that is silently acted as a religious freedom such as the ability to pray to one's self on public property is NOT a disorder--but rather a personal act of these folks to exhibit their religious rights.
In all the years of growing up in Elmira, NY; and knowing the many different forms of leaderships that have passed through the doors of the politics of this city, not one time do I ever remember a mayor or a judge violate the rights of practicing and exercising one's desire to pray as they did. It is time for religious communtiy to protect and stand up against such injustices; lest we allow other religious liberties to be taken away from us; such as even having a church.

There is talk of moving our special needs children???? Muscles4Kids said it best. I have a special needs child and now I am worried. This is the first that I am hearing of this. I better check it out.
I attended a Board of Education meeting a couple months ago when Dr. Bryant was talking about the Night School that he created, which, has anyone asked, costs a pretty penny. This night school is for the HS aged kids who do not feel like getting up at 6 30 AM to go to school. My grandchildren are up at 6 45 AM to go to Pre K. What the heck is that about?? Some of the teachers in that school will get $60/hr. Also, the kids that go to the night school  receive a bagged dinner, and then there is the cost of having the school open in the evenings and security costs. Why dont they just make these kids go to school during the regular school hours? When I was growing up, night school was for those who quit school  as a teen, and wanted to go back and get their diplomas or GEDs. And if these kids are not going to school during the regular school hours, well then, bring back the truant officer!!
A lot of tax dollars are being wasted on this program. Check it out! I wish I had listened more closely at that BOE meeting to catch more of the info on cost, etc. And from what I remember, at that time, there was no set cost for the program yet. HMMMM???? Leave those kids in school now, alone, and get those night schoolers back to regular hours. Its not like they work during the day for Heavens sake!
